To encourage students to concentrate some portion of their undergraduate course work in the study of public law, the Department offers an Option in Legal Studies. The Option is not intended to be a pre-law program, though students hoping to attend law school may enroll for the option and may well benefit from completing it.
In addition to meeting the requirements of the core curriculum (except those in Humanities), a student taking the Legal Studies Option must complete:
1. PHIL 1204 (Knowledge and Reality) and PHIL 1304 (Morality and Justice).
2. PSCI 1014 and 1024 (Introduction to U.S. Government and Politics & Introduction to Comparative Government and Politics)
3. PSCI 2024 (Research Methods in Political Science).
4. PSCI 3015 or 3016 (Political Theory).
5. 18 hours of electives, including at least two of PSCI 3345, 3346 (Constitutional Law), 3334 (Judicial Process), and 4324 (Senior Seminar in Constitutional Law).
6. 12 hours of courses drawn from the following:

If you complete the Legal Studies Option, you do not have to complete the Related Field requirement.
